Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Battery Cell Process Engineer to support laboratory-scale battery cell development and pilot-line prototyping in Mountain View, CA. This hands-on role focuses on pouch-cell assembly and pilot-line operations to help improve process consistency, yield, and product quality under senior-engineer guidance.
What You’ll Do
- Support laboratory-scale pouch-cell production: slurry prep, electrode coating, calendaring, slitting/die cutting, stacking, tab attachment, pouch sealing, electrolyte introduction, and cell formation.
- Operate, inspect, calibrate, and maintain pilot-line equipment, tooling, dry-room environments, glove boxes, and related fabrication systems.
- Assist with Design of Experiments (DOE) to evaluate process variables and optimize yield, uniformity, and electrochemical performance.
- Perform in-process quality checks (electrode thickness, coating/loading consistency, component alignment, pouch-seal integrity) and accurately record results.
- Troubleshoot common fabrication issues (coating defects, delamination, misalignment, incomplete wetting, sealing problems) and implement corrective actions with senior-engineer support.
- Maintain accurate assembly travelers, process records, equipment logs, SOPs, and safety documentation for new materials and cell formats.
Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience with laboratory battery manufacturing, pilot-line equipment, or pouch-cell assembly.
- Experience working in laboratory, cleanroom, dry-room, or glove-box environments and handling battery materials and mechanical assembly tools.
- Familiarity with lithium-ion cell manufacturing processes (slurry prep, electrode coating, calendaring, stacking, electrolyte filling, sealing).
- Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and adherence to laboratory and hazardous-material safety procedures.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience with pouch-cell assembly equipment (tab welding, electrolyte filling, pouch sealing).
- Familiarity with SPC, yield tracking, and process-data analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, JMP, Excel).
- Understanding of how variation in upstream manufacturing steps affects cell quality and electrochemical performance.
- Prior exposure to DOE planning and execution in a lab or pilot environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated pay range: $35.00 – $40.00 per hour (estimates provided by the source). Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
