Position Overview

Confidential client is seeking an Automotive Service Technician (Contract) to join their Service Operations team in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a 12-month contract (with potential for extension) focused on electric and hybrid vehicle mechanical maintenance and new vehicle builds, including up-fitting advanced vehicle systems. This role is entry-level to intermediate and provides hands-on experience with EV systems, wiring harnesses, and vehicle integration tasks supporting autonomy and advanced safety technologies.


What You’ll Do

  • Up-fit confidential client technology into new and existing fleet vehicles
  • Perform professional-level automotive repairs and routine maintenance
  • Create, modify, and install wiring systems and harnesses
  • Use vehicle diagnostic hardware and software to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Accurately document findings and track time and work orders
  • Communicate with cross-functional engineering and operations teams
  • Follow work instructions and engineering change orders precisely
  • Track inventory of parts and supplies and maintain a clean, organized workspace
  • Work independently and in small teams to complete engineering requirements
  • Potentially travel up to 15% for training or support at other locations

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and at least two (2) years of relevant work experience
  • Professional experience working on vehicles (gas, hybrid, or electric)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to meet the client’s minimum driving record requirements (Motor Vehicle Record checks required prior to hire and periodically)
  • Ability to create, modify, and install wiring systems and harnesses
  • Entry-level knowledge of automotive diagnostic tools, hardware, and software
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow written work instructions
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail)
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Nice to Have

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or similar field
  • Vehicle conversion experience (e.g., emergency vehicles, specialty up-fits)
  • Experience with installation, repair, or integration of active safety or autonomous vehicle equipment
  • Experience flashing/re-flashing automotive control modules and working with CAN bus systems
  • Familiarity with vehicle integration software and data collection tools

Physical Requirements & Work Conditions

The role requires regular standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and using hands/fingers for tool and computer use. Light to moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs) is required. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing or balancing may be needed. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Contract & Location

  • Employment type: 12-month contract (CONTRACTOR) with full-time hours
  • Work location: Pittsburgh, PA (on-site). Local candidates preferred.
  • Travel: Up to ~15% for training or support at other sites.
  • Note: A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and valid driver’s license are required.
