Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an Automation Test Software Engineer (Manufacturing) to build and maintain the software that verifies Sentry Tower hardware at scale on the manufacturing floor. You will design automated test suites, create technician-facing tooling, and implement robust diagnostics so that defects are caught before products ship. This is a hands-on role; you will work directly with hardware, manufacturing technicians, QA, and services under test.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and maintain automated test suites to verify hardware functionality and performance on production lines.
• Build user-friendly test and diagnostic interfaces for non-technical manufacturing technicians.
• Implement robust error-capturing, logging, and diagnostic mechanisms to produce actionable troubleshooting data.
• Integrate test tooling with hardware, services, and QA workflows to ensure smooth handoffs and traceability.
• Collaborate closely with hardware engineers, manufacturing engineers, and technicians to iterate rapidly on tests and tooling.
• Triage and resolve issues found on the line; prioritize speed and clarity to minimize technician time spent troubleshooting.
• Continuously improve testing frameworks to increase reliability, reduce false positives/negatives, and speed verification.

Required Qualifications

• Experience building test automation, instrumentation, or bench tooling for hardware; comfortable working on a bench with devices in front of you.
• Strong Python proficiency for test and tooling work.
• 2+ years experience in Rust or C++ to maintain and interact with services under test.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including CAN and Ethernet protocols.
• Experience with hardware interfacing and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, CANoe) and familiarity with cybersecurity practices for sensor data/embedded systems.
• Strong engineering background (Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent industry experience).
• US person status required and ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Prior experience in manufacturing test automation or field verification systems.
• Experience designing technician-facing UIs or command-line tools optimized for rapid troubleshooting.
• Background in sensor fusion, embedded systems, or robotics test environments.
• Familiarity with CI/CD for hardware test tooling and test-data collection/analysis pipelines.

• Location: Irvine, CA (on-site manufacturing/test floor work expected).
• This role requires regular, in-person collaboration with technicians and manufacturing staff.

Compensation & Benefits
