Overview

Confidential client (Engineering) is seeking an Automation Mechanical Engineer to design, configure, and support turnkey automation systems and robotic cells for manufacturing customers. This hands-on role suits engineers who enjoy mechanical design, robotics integration, and seeing projects through from concept to customer startup.


Key Responsibilities

  • Modify, configure, and support established automation platforms, robotic cells, tooling, guarding, and end‑of‑arm tooling (EOAT) to meet customer requirements
  • Develop 2D and 3D mechanical designs, assemblies, and detailed fabrication drawings
  • Create system layouts, installation drawings, and manufacturing documentation
  • Perform robotic reach studies, sizing analyses, and mechanical integration planning
  • Select and specify mechanical and pneumatic components for procurement and integration
  • Maintain BOMs and engineering records in SAP and PDM systems
  • Support projects through build, debug, installation, and customer startup; assist with troubleshooting on site as needed
  • Collaborate with Controls Engineers, technicians, project managers, vendors, and customers to ensure safe, on‑time, on‑budget delivery
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of existing automation platforms and documentation
  • Research emerging automation and robotics technologies and recommend practical solutions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Entry‑level candidates encouraged to apply
  • Strong 2D and 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred; Creo/AutoCAD a plus)
  • Experience designing or supporting automated equipment, robotic systems, tooling, or custom machinery preferred
  • Solid understanding of fabrication methods (sheet metal, weldments, machining, assembly)
  • Practical ability to convert concepts into manufacturable designs
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication; experience coordinating across teams
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; SAP, PDM, and FANUC robotics experience a plus
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently and in cross‑functional teams

Compensation & Location

  • Estimated salary: $104,688 per year (estimated)
  • Location: New Berlin, WI (on‑site / customer sites as required)
