About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring early-career engineers for the Automation Genesis — Process Automation Engineering Track. This development program prepares recent graduates for application-engineering roles focused on process industries (chemical, food & beverage, pharmaceutical, etc.).

The program starts with a 6-month, instructor-led onboarding based in Mason, OH, followed by a 12-month, immersive placement with one of the client’s DI Automation hubs or customer regions. Candidate placements may include Alpharetta, GA; Elk Grove Village, IL; Chicago, IL; Harleysville, PA; Lebanon, OH; Detroit, MI, or other customer sites based on business needs. Successful graduates transition into a full-time Application Engineer role on a Process Automation team.

What You’ll Do

• Actively participate in structured training, workshops, and engineering projects to learn the DI Automation portfolio and delivery methods.
• Design, develop, and test Distributed Control System (DCS) applications and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) components for greenfield, expansion, and modernization projects.
• Interpret and document system and customer requirements from P&IDs, process descriptions, electrical schematics, and control logic.
• Create test plans and specifications, run simulations and demos, and validate solutions against customer requirements.
• Support system installation and onsite commissioning activities to ensure safe, reliable project delivery.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, and customers across the project lifecycle; contribute to proposals, technical calculations, and engineering estimates.
• Apply troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to integrate hardware, software, controls, and instrumentation.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required)

• Degree completed (or will be completed before program start): Bachelor’s in Biomedical, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related major.
• Eligible to start full-time on June 7, 2027.
• Foundational knowledge or strong interest in process controls, industrial automation, instrumentation, or related engineering systems via coursework, projects, internships, or research.
• Ability to learn new technologies, software platforms, and design tools quickly.
• Experience reading and analyzing PFDs, P&IDs, control logic, electrical schematics, or design specifications.
• Strong problem-solving, time-management, verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in cross-functional and customer-facing settings.
• Willing to relocate as required: first to Mason, OH for 6 months, then to an assigned DI Automation hub or customer region (examples include Alpharetta, GA; Elk Grove Village, IL; Chicago, IL; Harleysville, PA; Lebanon, OH; Detroit, MI). Relocation assistance is provided for moves >50 miles from your permanent address.
• Travel will vary by assignment (typically 5–10% at times, up to ~50% during commissioning).
• Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to PLCs, industrial networking, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and/or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
• Internship, research, or hands-on project experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, industrial automation, or project engineering.
• Basic programming or scripting experience (Python, SQL, C/C++, Visual Basic).
• Demonstrated leadership in academic or extracurricular activities.

Compensation & Logistics

• Employment type: Full-time, Development Program leading to full-time Application Engineer placement.
• Report-to / program start: Available to start June 7, 2027 (candidates must be able to start by then).
• Salary range (as listed by the client): $81,000 – $84,000 per year.
• Relocation assistance provided for required moves greater than 50 miles.
• Travel: variable by project assignment (light travel 5–10% up to 50% for commissioning phases).
• Industry: Engineering.
