Role overview
Confidential Client is seeking a full-time Athletic Trainer (Band I–III / Senior career ladder) to provide athletic training, outreach, and rehabilitation services in clinical and community settings. This role supports athletic programs, assists clinicians, and contributes to injury prevention and return-to-play programs across the organization’s sports medicine services.
What You’ll Do
- Provide athletic training services in clinic and outreach (high school/college) settings, including evaluation, first aid, injury prevention, conditioning, rehabilitation and return-to-play programs.
- Deliver patient education and coach/staff in-service training on injury prevention and care.
- Document treatment plans and patient progress accurately in medical records.
- Assist in ambulatory and inpatient mobility tasks under RN direction (transfers, ROM, safe technique instruction).
- Maintain inventory, assist with ordering supplies and ensure equipment safety.
- Support orthopedics/sports MDs with documentation, history-taking, exams and exercise progression guidance.
- Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and quality/safety committees as assigned.
- When applicable (Band II–III / Senior), precept and mentor newer athletic trainers, support program/regional coordination, and lead special projects or sub-program oversight.
Career Ladder / Typical Responsibilities by Band
- Band I — Entry: Orientation, supervised clinical work, focused on skill development (100% clinical/outreach).
- Band II — Proficient: Independent clinical performance, may assist student athletic trainers, possible special projects (100% clinical/outreach). Requires ~18 months relevant experience.
- Band III — Coordinator: Program or regional coordination, mentorship, committee representation (90% clinical/10% admin). Requires ~4 years relevant experience.
- Senior — Leadership: Management/oversight of sub-programs and support of program directors. Requires ~6 years relevant experience.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field required; Master’s preferred (or equivalent combination of education & experience).
- AT — Certified Athletic Trainer by the NATA Board of Certification (NATABOC) upon hire required.
- New York State Athletic Trainer licensure required upon hire.
- CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification required upon hire.
- Ability to respond to patient emergencies and work collaboratively with clinical teams.
- Internship-route certification in Athletic Training (if applicable).
Preferred / Valuable Experience
- Outpatient orthopedic clinical care and athletic training outreach experience.
- Experience precepting or mentoring new staff and student athletic trainers.
- Prior program or regional coordination responsibility.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and documentation best practices.
Compensation & Schedule
- Compensation range: $26.25 - $35.44 per hour. Individual pay will be set within this range and determined by experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
- Full-time; scheduled weekly hours: 40; typical shift: Day (UR-style day shift).
