Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Assurance Associate to join their audit and assurance team in Houston, TX. This role is ideal for early-career accounting professionals who are eligible to sit for the CPA exam and want hands-on experience preparing financial statements, applying GAAP and GAAS, and testing internal controls on public and private engagements. Travel to client sites will be required as projects demand.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare basic sets of financial statements with disclosures under GAAP
• Document, validate, test, and assess clients’ internal control systems
• Apply GAAS and firm methodology when performing audit procedures and documenting workpapers
• Research accounting and auditing topics; use authoritative literature to support conclusions
• Draft workpapers in accordance with firm standards and identify deviations for escalation
• Recommend improvements to client accounting procedures and internal controls
• Participate in reviews and agreed-upon procedures engagements as assigned
• Contribute ideas and observations to engagement teams and collaborate with senior staff

Qualifications

• Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics — required
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in another discipline with CPA certification — required
  • Master’s in Accountancy — preferred
• Experience
  • Accounting internship or relevant leadership experience — preferred
• Licenses / Certifications
  • Eligible to sit for the CPA exam upon starting employment — required
  • Actively pursuing CPA completion — preferred

• Willingness and ability to travel to client locations as needed
• Basic understanding of planning and coordinating audit stages for public/private companies

• Employment type: Full-time (contract placement)
• Estimated salary (site estimate): $42,482/year. Actual offers are determined by candidate qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
• Location: Houston, TX — on-site / client-facing assignments with travel as required
