Position overview
Confidential Client is hiring an Associate Solutions Engineer — an entry-level, customer-facing pre-sales role in IT. This position supports Account Executives by running demos, assisting with proof-of-value engagements, troubleshooting technical evaluations, and learning to present security and networking solutions to technical and non-technical audiences. This role is a strong launching pad for a career in Sales Engineering with structured onboarding, mentoring, and certification support.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with Account Executives to qualify opportunities and map solutions to business and technical requirements
- Deliver clear, engaging product demos and technical presentations for audiences ranging from engineers to security leaders
- Support proof-of-value (POV) engagements: environment setup, configuration, success criteria tracking, and results readouts
- Respond to technical questions and assist with security questionnaires, RFPs, and architecture reviews
- Build and maintain knowledge of the platform and core use cases (e.g., Secure Web Gateway, CASB, ZTNA, DLP, cloud/AI security)
- Stay current on the broader security and networking landscape, including SASE/SSE and Zero Trust concepts
- Troubleshoot technical issues during evaluations and coordinate with Support, Product, and Engineering to resolve them
- Capture customer and field feedback and share with Product and internal teams
- Contribute to team enablement through demo environments, documentation, and training materials
- Complete required certifications and participate in the internal SE onboarding program
Required qualifications
- 0–2 years in a technical role such as IT support, help desk, systems or network administration, security operations, consulting, or a technical internship
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, proxies, firewalls)
- Familiarity with core security concepts (authentication, encryption, threat types, data protection)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical concepts simply
- Curiosity, fast learning, and openness to feedback
- Comfortable working collaboratively in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
Preferred / nice-to-have
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) or common SaaS apps (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Salesforce)
- Exposure to identity, endpoint, or MDM technologies
- Relevant certifications (Security+, Network+, CCNA, AWS/Azure fundamentals, or similar)
- Internship or early-career experience in pre-sales, customer success, or technical support
- Experience presenting to groups in professional, academic, or community settings
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field preferred — or equivalent practical experience.
Compensation & benefits
- Compensation type: On-Target Earnings (OTE) for sales roles (sum of base salary + target commission at 100% goal achievement)
- Salary range (national): $98,000—$139,500 USD
- Additional compensation may include bonus participation (non-sales roles), equity awards, and a comprehensive benefits package subject to eligibility and location
- Final pay will be determined by job-related skills, experience, qualifications, location, and market conditions
What success looks like (first 6–12 months)
- Confidently run standard product demos and support discovery calls
- Contribute to and support multiple POVs from setup through readout
- Complete onboarding and recommended certifications
- Build strong partnerships with Account Executives and internal teams
- Start taking independent ownership of technical evaluations and customer-facing interactions
