What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Associate Software Engineer to join a distributed team developing the Joint Range Extension (JRE) suite — a tactical data-link gateway used to extend situational awareness across the battlespace. This is a REMOTE role within the U.S.
You will:
- Support design, development, and maintenance of features, enhancements, and integrations for edge- and cloud-deployed client and server applications.
- Develop domain knowledge in tactical data link, situational awareness, and command-and-control systems.
- Use AI-assisted tooling (chat, RAG, code assistants) to research architecture, speed development, and validate implementations.
- Collaborate closely with teammates via pair- and mob-programming practices, code reviews, and automated testing.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- U.S. citizenship (required).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance or higher after hire.
- Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, compilers, operating systems).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Willingness to learn modern development workflows and participate in pair/mob programming.
Preferred / Desired Skills
Nice-to-have skills that will help you ramp faster:
- Familiarity or experience with Java and Kotlin.
- Experience with automated unit testing and CI pipelines.
- Public contributions to open-source projects or demonstrable personal projects.
- Comfortable using AI coding tools and retrieval-augmented workflows as productivity multipliers.
Location, Compensation & Employment Type
- Work location: Remote within the United States (telecommute). Applicants must reside in the U.S. and be eligible for U.S. employment.
- Employment type: Full-time.
