Associate Software Engineer
The Associate Software Engineer at Confidential Client is responsible for designing, building, and shipping AI-driven software features that support high-volume hiring and frontline workforce operations. This role involves working primarily with Python-based AI agents and integrating them with a .NET/React platform, ensuring high-quality, reliable production software in a hybrid work environment based in Raleigh, NC.
About Careertakes
👉 Important disclosure: Careertakes is a third-party recruiting platform supporting this hiring process. If selected, you will be employed directly by our client, Software Development.
Applicants for this role may also receive access to additional matched opportunities through the Careertakes platform.
What You’ll Do
- Own features end-to-end for production AI-driven products: design, implement, test, roll out, and maintain.
- Build and extend customer-facing AI agents (backend tools, workflows, and UIs) primarily using Python, Pydantic AI, and AGUI.
- Integrate agent work with the platform: connect to APIs, data stores, access controls, and audit logs across .NET microservices and React front-ends.
- Debug and improve reliability across model behavior, prompts, application code, and data; add observability to scale usage.
- Collaborate with product and cross-functional engineers: estimate work, communicate progress, participate in code review, and give/receive constructive feedback.
- Use and improve coding agents and developer tooling as part of daily engineering workflows.
What We’re Looking For
- ~2–3 years building production software (or equivalent through internships and projects).
- Proficiency in Python and experience with at least one other language (C#, TypeScript, etc.).
- Practical interest in AI products: testing/evaluations, failure modes, UX for model output, and production behavior.
- Strong testing habits, sound API and data design, and pragmatic judgment about performance and optimization.
- Clear written and verbal communication; self-directed problem solving and willingness to ask clarifying questions.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is expected.
How We Build AI
- Customer-facing AI agents for recruiting and frontline operations — real product constraints, not experiments.
- Engineering discipline: structured evaluations, tracing and monitoring of agent runs, human review on consequential steps, and permissions tied to logged-in users with full audit history.
- Emphasis on reliability, observability, and safety in production.
Tech Stack & Environment
- Primary: Python, Pydantic AI, AGUI (agent UI layer).
- Platform integration: .NET microservices, React, TypeScript, Azure, SQL.
- Expect roughly a 50/50 split between agent-focused Python work and platform integration/.NET + React features; balance shifts with roadmap.
- Team: reports to Director of Software Engineering; cross-functional engineering team of ~20 engineers.
- Work arrangement: Hybrid (based in Raleigh, NC) — in-office schedule includes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday presence (confirm specific schedule with the hiring team).
- Employment type: Full-time.
Compensation & Logistics
- Base salary range: $85,000–$115,000 per year (depends on experience).
- Location: Raleigh, NC (hybrid).
- Employment type: Full-time.
- Confidential client funds tools and infrastructure to support agent-driven development.
Growth & Why You’ll Join
- Clear path to the next level by owning larger projects, leading technical decisions, and shaping how the team builds AI agents that operate at scale.
- Work on high-volume hiring and frontline operations products where software reliability directly impacts customer operations.
- Opportunity to ship production AI features, not prototypes—focus on long-term quality and observability.
Nice to Have / Preferred
- Prior experience shipping agent, copilot, or automation features where quality and reliability were essential.
- Public side projects, open-source contributions, or experiments (especially AI-related) that demonstrate craftsmanship.
- Interest or background in high-volume frontline domains (staffing, logistics, warehouses, restaurants, fleets) where operational reliability matters.
