Position Overview

Confidential Client (IT) is hiring an Associate Software Engineer for a full-time, permanent position in Princeton By The Sea, CA. This is an entry-level engineering role working in an Agile development environment with mentorship from senior engineers. The position supports software design, development, testing, and maintenance for product features and cloud- or internet-facing tools.

  • Compensation: $66,500 - $101,500 per year (range provided by the hiring client)

What You’ll Do

  • Work within a defined software development lifecycle and Agile/Scrum team processes
  • Design, code, debug, test, deploy, and maintain software components and applications
  • Write modular, reusable, testable, and scalable code and accompanying unit tests
  • Participate in design and code reviews and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams
  • Implement algorithms and translate detailed requirements into code
  • Use JIRA (or similar) to track tasks and maintain accurate work status
  • Deliver work on schedule and within scope under general supervision
  • Learn continuously and contribute to problem-solving for tasks of limited scope

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience in Windows or Linux application software development
  • Object-oriented design experience required
  • Proficiency with at least one of: C# (.NET), Java, C++, or Web UI development
  • Familiarity with source control (Git, SVN) and Integrated Development Environments (IDEs)
  • Experience writing unit tests and basic debugging techniques
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills; understanding of data structures, databases, and operating systems
  • Willingness to travel locally on occasion

Preferred Skills & Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with Qt or GUI frameworks
  • Test-driven development (TDD) experience
  • Mobile or modern web experience (Android, iOS, React/Redux)
  • Basic networking knowledge
  • Experience or familiarity with Scrum and agile ceremonies
  • Strong communication, teaming, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and ownership of delivered work

Physical & Work Environment

  • Ability to work in both office and light manufacturing settings
  • Frequent periods of sitting and standing; regular use of hands/fingers for keyboard and equipment operation
  • Typical hours consistent with full-time engineering roles; may involve deadlines and project milestones

Work Authorization & Security Requirements

This role requires compliance with ITAR/EAR regulations. Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) or be able to obtain an export license when applicable. Some assignments may require current U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance. Requests related to export licenses or clearances will be handled consistent with applicable law and contract requirements.
