Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an Associate Software Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team in Moorpark, CA. This is an entry-level software role supporting product development across embedded, desktop, and web/cloud systems within the aerospace & defense/autonomous-systems space. You will be mentored by senior engineers, follow an Agile/Scrum process, and contribute to design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of software features.
Responsibilities
- Work within a defined software development lifecycle: design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain software.
- Write modular, reusable, testable, and scalable code; develop and run unit tests.
- Participate in design and code reviews; follow established engineering processes and quality standards.
- Debug, integrate, simulate, and validate software components across teams and disciplines.
- Use issue-tracking tools (JIRA) to log work and report status.
- Support algorithm implementation from detailed requirements and collaborate with hardware/firmware/QA teams as needed.
- Deliver work on schedule and communicate progress professionally.
- Perform other duties as assigned while operating in a continuous-learning environment.
**## Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 0–2 years of relevant software development experience (Windows or Linux applications).
- Strong object-oriented design fundamentals.
- Proficiency in one or more: C#, .NET, Java, C++, and/or Web UI development.
- Familiarity with source control systems (Git, SVN).
- Experience writing unit tests and using an IDE; basic debugging skills.
- Demonstrated mathematical and analytical ability.
- Willingness to travel locally occasionally.
Preferred Qualifications & Competencies
- Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and unit-test frameworks.
- Experience with Qt, Android, iOS, or React/Redux web development.
- Basic networking knowledge.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices and working in cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication skills: listening, clarifying, summarizing.
- Self-motivated with a focus on ownership, reliability, and team success.
- Able to learn quickly and adapt to fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Office and manufacturing/production-area access may be required.
- Frequent periods of sitting or standing, using hands and fingers for computer/keyboard tasks, and communicating by phone or in person.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $66,500 – $101,500 per year (reported range). Actual pay offered will consider location, experience, skills, and other factors.
