Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an early-career Associate Software Engineer (Java Full Stack) to join a hybrid team developing modern full‑stack web applications for government programs. This is a hands‑on role ideal for developers with 1–3 years of professional experience in Java and modern front‑end frameworks who want strong mentorship, exposure to DevSecOps practices, and growth opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain full‑stack web applications using Java, Spring Boot, Angular and/or React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Implement backend business logic and RESTful APIs with Java and Spring Boot.
- Build responsive, reusable UI components and integrate front end with backend services and databases.
- Write and maintain SQL for PostgreSQL, Oracle, or comparable relational databases.
- Produce clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code following established engineering standards.
- Create unit and integration tests; participate in automated testing (JUnit, Cucumber, Selenium).
- Use Git/GitHub for source control, branching, and code reviews.
- Work with CI/CD tools (Jenkins) and collaborate with DevOps to deploy across environments.
- Monitor and triage production issues using tools such as Splunk and New Relic, with support from senior engineers.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, design discussions, and code reviews; collaborate with product owners, QA, UX, and architects.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of professional software development experience.
- Strong foundational knowledge of Java and experience with Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Experience with front‑end frameworks such as Angular and/or React, plus JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Understanding of RESTful API design and relational database concepts.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle SQL, or similar databases.
- Familiarity with Git/GitHub, unit/integration testing, and CI/CD concepts.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance (required).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS cloud environments.
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Prior exposure to Jenkins or other CI/CD tooling.
- Experience with monitoring/observability tools (Splunk, New Relic).
- Understanding of microservices and cloud‑native architecture.
- Experience working in Agile and DevSecOps teams.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Location & Work Model
- Hybrid: 2 days per week onsite at the Sterling, VA office (Tuesdays and Wednesdays); other days remote as agreed with the team.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. and be able to obtain and maintain required security clearance.
