What You’ll Do

This role is focused on building engaging, polished gameplay systems for an action-RPG title. You will join a cross-functional team and contribute to production-quality gameplay features from design through implementation and tuning.

  • Design, implement, maintain, and iterate gameplay systems (abilities, combat, interactions, quests, UI hooks, etc.)
  • Integrate systems with designers, artists, and tools teams to create a high-quality player experience
  • Debug and optimize gameplay code for performance and stability
  • Contribute to internal tools and pipelines that improve team productivity
  • Communicate technical trade-offs clearly and collaborate to reach decisions that favor gameplay first

What We’re Looking For (Minimum Requirements)

  • 2+ years professional software engineering experience (industry or equivalent academic projects)
  • Strong proficiency in C++ (or comparable systems language) and solid object-oriented programming fundamentals
  • Understanding of design patterns and systems architecture
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to performance and stability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for cross-discipline collaboration
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid team environment (mix of remote and on-site days)

Nice-to-Haves / Bonus Points

  • Experience working on ARPGs, RPGs, or other action-oriented game genres
  • Prior work on gameplay systems such as combat, AI/pathfinding, quests, scripting, or narrative tools
  • Experience building or supporting developer tools and pipelines
  • Familiarity with C# or scripting languages used in game engines
  • Experience contributing in cross-functional teams with designers and artists

Work Location & Schedule

  • Primary studio location: Albany, NY
  • Flexible hybrid work week (mix of remote and on-site). Full-time on-site is also an option for candidates who prefer it.

Compensation & Benefits

  • In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $30.05 - $55.59 Hourly. Final offer will depend on experience, location, and other factors. Incentive compensation may also be available but is not guaranteed.
  • Benefits may include (subject to eligibility): medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, paid time off and holidays, parental leave, mental health and wellness programs, tuition reimbursement, and voluntary benefit options.
  • Relocation assistance may be available if the Company requires geographic relocation.
