Associate, Software Engineer
The Associate Software Engineer at Confidential Client develops and tests embedded software for real-time control systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle. This role involves working with various programming languages and operating systems to build and evaluate software solutions supporting advanced tactical radio equipment in a defense technology environment.

What You’ll Do
- Develop, test, and document embedded software for real‑time systems used in defense and space applications.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to define requirements, design interfaces between hardware and software, and integrate software into systems.
- Support the full software development lifecycle: requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, verification, debugging, and defect resolution.
- Create software test procedures and automated test programs; participate in peer reviews and track/repair defects.
- Use modeling tools and lab equipment to establish operating data, run experimental tests, and evaluate results.
- Work with a variety of programming languages and platforms (examples below) across Windows, Linux, mobile, and embedded RTOS environments.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (or completed within the last 12 months) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Security, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, software engineering practices, and applied mathematics.
- Experience or coursework in at least one general-purpose language such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
- Familiarity with software testing, debugging, and version control.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-discipline teams and communicate technical ideas clearly.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.; some roles may require the ability to obtain a government security clearance (clearances are generally granted only to U.S. citizens).
Preferred / Helpful Experience
- Exposure to embedded real‑time operating systems (VxWorks, QNX, Integrity, RT‑Linux, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with hardware/software interfaces, device drivers, or low-level system programming.
- Familiarity with scripting and automation (Python, Perl, shell), and with tools for continuous integration and automated test.
- Prior internships, co‑ops, or project work in embedded systems, radio communications, or defense/aerospace applications.
Schedule & Location
- Location: Clifton, NJ — on-site.
- Schedule: 9/80 (employees work 9 out of every 14 days, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off).
- Note: Some positions may require background checks, pre‑employment substance testing (where permitted), and the ability to obtain a security clearance. Clearance eligibility typically requires U.S. citizenship.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay transparency: For roles in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C., Denver, or NYC areas the salary range is $75,500 - $140,500. This range is not a guarantee; final offers vary by experience and location. (This posting is for Clifton, NJ — the NJ range above applies.)
