Role overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Associate Security Engineer — Cyber Monitoring to join a Cyber Monitoring and Network Defense team supporting mission‑critical systems in Aiken, SC. This hands‑on role focuses on real-time alert monitoring, basic incident triage, email security review, log analysis, and administration of defensive security tooling. The position is W2 (hourly) and requires on-site work in Aiken with limited telework flexibility.
What You’ll Do
You will work alongside experienced cybersecurity professionals to strengthen defensive monitoring and respond to potential incidents. Typical responsibilities include:
- Monitor network security alerts and assist with real‑time threat response
- Review and analyze logs, alerts, and security events to identify and escalate potential incidents
- Review quarantined and user‑reported emails for phishing or other malicious activity
- Evaluate external indicators of compromise (IOCs) and assess potential impact
- Ingest and apply threat intelligence to enhance defensive capabilities
- Administer and maintain logging and security monitoring tools (deployment and policy levels)
- Support and maintain cybersecurity toolsets to ensure effective operation
- Assist in developing and implementing basic security policies and procedures
- Collaborate with team members and management to strengthen overall security posture
Qualifications & Experience
We’re looking for a motivated, detail‑oriented candidate with foundational cybersecurity skills and a strong willingness to learn.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Knowledge of basic cybersecurity principles, protections, or frameworks (e.g., NIST)
- Foundational experience with log review, alert management, and email security practices
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail
- Demonstrated willingness to learn new tools, frameworks, and regulatory environments
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Ability to work onsite in Aiken, SC (limited telework flexibility)
- Comfortable working an early shift schedule (approx. 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
Education
One of the following is required:
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT‑related field (Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering), OR
- Non‑IT Bachelor’s degree + 2 years relevant experience, OR
- Associate degree in IT + 2 years relevant experience, OR
- Non‑IT Associate degree + 4 years relevant experience, OR
- High school diploma + 6+ years equivalent cybersecurity or IT experience
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay rate: $23–$25 per hour (W2)
- For W2 consultants: medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) with company match, life insurance (benefits eligibility and specifics depend on engagement and hours worked)
Work location & schedule
- Location: On site in Aiken, South Carolina (100% on‑site; limited telework flexibility)
- Shift: Early shift (approximately 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
- Employment type: W2 engagement (contractor/consulting arrangement)
