Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Associate Scientist to join an R&D team developing chemical and biological sensors, assays, and reagents for clinical analyzers and instrumentation. This is an entry- to early-career laboratory role working under general supervision to perform experiments, characterize organic compounds, collect and summarize data, and prepare technical reports.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development activities within assigned projects using established methodologies.
- Support development of chemical and biological sensors, assays, and reagents for clinical analyzers and instrumentation.
- Perform laboratory experiments, including organic synthesis and related techniques.
- Use analytical methods such as HPLC, FT‑IR, and LC‑MS/MS to characterize organic compounds.
- Accurately record, organize, store, summarize, and evaluate experimental data.
- Maintain complete and compliant laboratory documentation and notebooks.
- Prepare samples, reagents, materials, and equipment for experiments.
- Develop hands‑on lab skills and support equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Identify routine experimental or equipment issues and recommend solutions.
- Analyze results and communicate observations to senior scientists and project teams.
- Prepare clear technical reports summarizing methods, results, and conclusions.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet timelines and quality requirements.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe laboratory workspace and follow safety and quality procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related life science discipline.
- 0–2+ years of relevant laboratory experience (entry‑level to early career).
- Hands‑on experience in organic synthesis or related laboratory work.
- Familiarity with analytical techniques such as HPLC, FT‑IR, and LC‑MS/MS is preferred.
- Ability to perform standard laboratory procedures and use lab equipment safely and accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate recordkeeping.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with laboratory statistical software preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare technical reports.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaborate with senior staff.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to support project timelines.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for handling laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Comfortable performing repetitive tasks and working with chemicals or biological materials.
- Must use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols.
- Occasional bending, reaching, or movement within the lab environment.
Compensation & Location
- Work location: Onsite in Waltham, MA.
- Targeted salary range: $60,000–$75,000 (base salary). Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience and may vary based on individual factors.
