Role Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Associate Research Fellow to support preclinical in vivo studies at their Morgan Hill, CA site. This laboratory- and vivarium-based position focuses on rodent (mouse and rat) handling and study support, including dosing, blood collection, necropsy, tissue collection, and accurate study documentation. The role works closely with Study Directors, Scientists, and veterinary staff to ensure studies follow approved protocols and high standards of animal welfare.
What You’ll Do
- Perform animal handling and study procedures in mice and rats, including dosing and routes of administration
- Collect blood and biological samples; perform observations and record clinical data
- Conduct necropsy and tissue collection per study protocols
- Prepare for studies: animal receipt, randomization, room and equipment setup, and study closeout
- Process, label, store, and coordinate shipment of biological samples
- Maintain complete, timely, and accurate study records and data in accordance with SOPs
- Follow approved IACUC protocols, institutional SOPs, and applicable regulatory guidelines
- Recognize and promptly report animal health concerns, protocol deviations, or unexpected findings
- Communicate supply or equipment needs and maintain study supplies
- Perform specialized procedures and disease-model techniques after training and per approved protocols
- Collaborate with Study Directors, Scientists, veterinary staff, and other research personnel
- Develop technical proficiency and assist with training less-experienced personnel as appropriate
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field preferred
- Laboratory animal experience, especially with mice and/or rats, preferred — relevant entry-level candidates will be considered
- Demonstrated ability with rodent routes of administration and blood collection techniques
- Experience with necropsy and tissue collection or willingness to train
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality and accurate documentation
- Ability to follow detailed protocols and SOPs consistently
- Ability to work in a vivarium/laboratory environment, wear required PPE, and lift laboratory supplies and equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic research, or CRO environments
- Familiarity with IACUC policies and vivarium operations
- Prior exposure to preclinical study workflows and GLP-like documentation practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary study teams
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- This is a laboratory- and vivarium-based role requiring routine handling of laboratory rodents
- Frequent standing for extended periods, use of required PPE, and lifting of supplies and equipment
- Tasks may involve exposure to biological samples, tissues, and animal waste — safe work practices required
