What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Associate Mortgage Loan Specialist to support real estate lending origination and member engagement. In this role you will learn and apply lending policies, guide members through mortgage applications, and support loan servicing while receiving structured training and mentorship.

  • Receive and assist in completion of real estate loan applications and act as a primary point of contact during origination.
  • Review and evaluate documentation (income, tax returns, credit, collateral) to inform underwriting recommendations.
  • Price and disclose loan offers, determining interest rates and fees consistent with policy and market factors.
  • Counsel prospective homebuyers and homeowners on mortgage options and required documentation to facilitate approvals.
  • Follow up on prequalified applicants and leads to drive application completion and member engagement.
  • Coordinate with loan processing and the Lending Contact Center to ensure smooth file progression and member communications.
  • Maintain detailed and compliant loan application notes in the Loan Origination System.
  • Assist with servicing existing mortgage and home equity loans as directed.
  • Participate in community outreach with realtors and partners to build mortgage volume.
  • Provide branch support for real estate lending questions and referrals.
  • Perform other consumer lending, clerical, and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required. Preferred: bachelor’s degree, CCUE Certification, or Associate of Arts/Science via NC-CTP.
  • Eligible or able to register as an active Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the NMLS.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to interact with members, appraisers, realtors, attorneys, and senior leaders professionally.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and the ability to follow policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Basic computer proficiency with the ability to learn lending and loan servicing software.
  • Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to ongoing training and professional development.
  • Previous credit union or lending experience is preferred but not required.

Training & Progression

  • Complete New Employee Training (Excel and Elevate) and the Real Estate Lending Program (RELP) within required timelines.
  • Complete required core and additional modules covering account types, lending overview, compliance, digital services, and platform training.
  • Successful completion of the Consumer Lending Program and exam leads to Tier 1 lending limits (with leadership recommendation).
  • Ongoing quarterly and role-based training will be required to maintain compliance and advance within lending roles.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Office setting with regular proximity to colleagues and members; some background noise typical of branch operations.
  • Role requires frequent sitting, use of standard office equipment, telephone communication, and occasional lifting up to 10–15 lbs.
  • Some local travel and community event attendance may be required.

Compensation

  • Estimated base pay: $69,977 per year (estimated). Exact pay and benefits will be provided by Confidential Client during the hiring process.
