Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring an entry-level Associate Mortgage Loan Specialist to support real estate lending and mortgage origination in Raeford, NC. What You’ll Do
You will support the mortgage lending lifecycle and be the primary contact for applicants during origination. Typical responsibilities include:
- Receive and assist members with completion of mortgage and real estate loan applications.
- Collect, verify, and evaluate income documentation (including tax returns) and other supporting documents.
- Assist in underwriting analysis and make recommendations based on creditworthiness, ability to repay, collateral, and organizational risk.
- Communicate loan decisions (approvals/denials) clearly and professionally to applicants.
- Price and disclose loan terms, interest rates, and fees consistent with policy and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with loan processing teams and Lending Contact Center to move applications to closing.
- Service existing mortgage and home equity accounts as needed.
- Follow up with prequalified applicants and cultivate leads to grow mortgage volume.
- Participate in community and realtor engagement activities to support originations.
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready loan application notes and records in the Loan Origination System.
- Support branch staff with mortgage-related questions and referrals.
Qualifications & Must-Haves
We recommend candidates meet the following minimums and preferences:
- High school diploma or GED required. Preferred: bachelor’s degree, CCUE certification, or Associate degree (NC-CTP).
- Eligible to be registered as an active MLO with NMLS (or willing to complete requirements).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with members, realtors, appraisers, attorneys, and internal stakeholders.
- High integrity, strong attention to detail, and commitment to compliance and regulatory standards.
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn loan origination and servicing software.
- Willingness to participate in required training programs and continuing education.
- Previous lending or credit union experience preferred but not required.
Training & Career Development
This is a development role that includes structured training:
- New employee training and mandatory Core Modules (e.g., Lending Overview, Member Eligibility, NCUA coverage).
- Complete the Real Estate Lending Program (RELP) within six months.
- Successful completion of Consumer Lending Program courses and exam required; initial Tier 1 lending limits issued after proficiency and leadership recommendation.
- Ongoing quarterly and role-specific training to support progression to higher lending tiers.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Office-based role with regular member interaction; occasional local travel for community outreach.
- Typical workstation tasks: significant sitting, keyboard use, phone handling.
- Must be able to lift up to 10–15 lbs and perform standard branch duties as needed.
