About the Role
Confidential Client is hiring an Associate Mortgage Loan Specialist in Carthage, IL. This entry-level real estate lending role focuses on development and training to guide members through mortgage loan origination and servicing. Estimated pay: $66,275 per year (estimated).
What You’ll Do
- Receive and assist applicants with completion of real estate loan applications and act as a primary point of contact during origination.
- Assess and underwrite loan applications, reviewing creditworthiness, income, collateral valuation, and repayment ability; clearly communicate approval or denial decisions to members.
- Evaluate and verify income documentation, including personal and business tax returns.
- Counsel prospective home buyers and existing homeowners; collect required documentation to facilitate initial loan approvals.
- Price and disclose loan applications by determining interest rates and fees based on borrower credit, loan amount, term, and market conditions.
- Coordinate with the Real Estate Lending Processing Center and Lending Contact Center to move applications through processing and servicing.
- Assist with servicing existing mortgage and home equity loans.
- Follow up on prequalified applicants and other leads to cultivate relationships and loan volume.
- Maintain accurate, well-documented loan notes in the Loan Origination System.
- Support branch employees by providing mortgage product information and referral guidance.
- Participate in community outreach with realtors and other third parties to build mortgage lending relationships.
- Perform consumer unsecured lending, clerical tasks, and other duties as assigned.
- Complete required training programs and continuing education to progress lending authorization (Tier 1 limits and beyond).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Preferred: bachelor’s degree, CCUE Certification, or Associate degrees (AA/AS) via relevant community college transfer programs.
- Has or is eligible to be registered as an active Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the NMLS.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with internal leadership, attorneys, appraisers, realtors, and members.
- High integrity, strong networking and relationship-building skills, and attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to learn loan processing and servicing software.
- Willingness to engage in ongoing training and professional development.
- Ability to meet organizational compliance and regulatory standards.
- Must be able to speak and write English fluently.
Training & Career Progression
- Completion of Excel & Elevate (new employee training) and Real Estate Lending Program (RELP) within six months is required.
- Successful completion of Consumer Lending Program courses and exams leads to Tier 1 lending limits (with SVP recommendation).
- Ongoing quarterly and role-specific training required for advancement.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Office setting with regular proximity to other employees and members; some background noise expected.
- Primarily a seated role with standard office equipment (computer, phone).
- Occasional local travel and community events.
- Ability to lift up to 10–15 lbs and perform routine clerical tasks.
