Position overview

Confidential client is hiring an Associate Mortgage Loan Specialist (Entry-level) to support real estate lending origination and member/customer engagement. This is a full-time, member-facing role based in Barco, US. Estimated pay: $75,951 per year (estimated).


What you’ll do

This third-party recruiting posting reflects the core responsibilities for the role. As an Associate Mortgage Loan Specialist you will:

  • Serve as primary point of contact for members/applicants during mortgage and home-equity loan origination.
  • Take and process real estate loan applications; collect required documentation and ensure accurate application records.
  • Evaluate and verify income documentation (including personal and business tax returns) to support lending decisions.
  • Make underwriting recommendations in line with policy, assessing creditworthiness, repayment ability, collateral valuation, and organizational risk.
  • Communicate approval/denial decisions clearly and professionally to members.
  • Price and disclose loan terms — determine rates and fees based on credit, loan amount, term and market conditions.
  • Coordinate with the Real Estate Lending Processing Center and Lending Contact Center to advance loans through origination and servicing.
  • Follow up on prequalified applicants and leads; cultivate relationships with realtors and third parties to build mortgage volume.
  • Support branch teams with mortgage-related guidance and member referrals to other financial products.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of lending policies, regulatory requirements, and market trends.
  • Complete required training programs (Consumer Lending Program, Real Estate Lending Program) and earn initial lending limits (Tier 1) after proficiency is proven and recommended by senior leadership.
  • Perform other consumer lending, clerical and community engagement duties as assigned.

What we’re looking for (requirements & skills)

  • High school diploma or GED required. Preferred: bachelor’s degree, CCUE certification, or Associate degree via the NC Community College Transfer Program.
  • Previous lending or credit-union experience preferred.
  • Eligible to be registered (or already registered) as an active Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with NMLS.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with members, legal counsel, appraisers, realtors and senior leadership.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to document application history clearly in the Loan Origination System.
  • Customer service orientation and relationship-building skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn lending and processing platforms.
  • Willingness to engage in continuing training and development, complete required core modules within the employer’s timeframe, and comply with attendance policies.
  • Must be able to speak and write English fluently.
  • High integrity and adherence to regulatory and compliance standards.

Training & development

  • New-hire onboarding (Excel and Elevate) followed by Real Estate Lending Program (RELP) completion within 6 months.
  • Completion of required core modules covering accounts, lending overview, policies, and member-facing systems.
  • Ongoing quarterly training and development to expand lending limits and advance career path.

Work environment & physical demands

  • Office setting with regular interaction with employees and members; some background noise from normal branch activity.
  • Some local travel to community events or partner meetings may be required.
  • Mostly sedentary work with regular computer and phone use.
  • May lift items up to 10–15 lbs.
