Role Overview
Associate Mechanical Engineer Loch Alpine MI — Careertakes is supporting a confidential client in hiring an Associate Mechanical Systems Engineer to support mechanical system design for nuclear power generation projects. This is an early-career, full-time engineering role focused on mechanical systems design, calculations, and P&ID development within a regulated, safety-conscious environment.
What You’ll Do
- Under general supervision, perform mechanical system design and analysis for assigned systems supporting nuclear power generation.
- Prepare engineering deliverables, research equipment and material options, and develop clear design recommendations.
- Perform calculations including pipe sizing, pipe thickness, pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat exchanger and atmospheric tank sizing.
- Develop and review P&IDs, specifications, and mechanical discipline deliverables.
- Coordinate with multi-discipline teams and support project leadership to meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
- Collect, manage, and validate engineering data used for designs and calculations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, apply departmental design guides, and follow applicable codes and standards.
- Mentor entry-level engineers and interns; assign and supervise less complex tasks as experience grows.
- Support occasional site visits and client interactions to understand project drivers and requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited program and at least 1 year of related work experience.
- Required: Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding (background check, drug screen, MVR) in compliance with applicable laws.
- Preferred:
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Experience with air systems, demineralized water, service/potable water, gas supply systems (natural, hydrogen, nitrogen).
- Familiarity with closed-cycle cooling water, steam systems (HP/IP/LP/auxiliary), feedwater and condensate systems, CO2 supply.
- Strong experience performing pipe and pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat exchanger calculations, and P&ID development.
- Experience with mechanical design for nuclear or heavy industrial projects is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated pay: $73,112 per year (estimated).
