Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Associate, Materials Process Engineer to support materials characterization, mechanical testing, and process control for propulsion and defense-related manufacturing. This role works with cross-functional teams to support material property data, process qualification, contamination investigations, and documentation in a production/repair environment.

What You’ll Do

• Support development, implementation, control, and troubleshooting of chemical cleaning and electrochemical processes used in production and repair.
• Evaluate materials and surface conditions to ensure compliance with process requirements, product performance, and quality standards.
• Assist contamination investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans for manufacturing/process issues.
• Support generation of material property curves, design allowables development, testing plans, and fracture mechanics characterization.
• Interpret and apply ASTM standards, Military and Weapons Specifications, and internal/customer process requirements.
• Support process qualification, verification, and documentation for cleaning and plating operations.
• Prepare technical reports, work instructions, and process documentation.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, design engineering, and EHS to maintain robust and compliant processes.

Who You Are / Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field OR completed a bachelor’s degree within the last 12 months.
• Entry-level candidate with strong theoretical knowledge in materials characterization and mechanical testing.
• Comfortable working under general direction and contributing to non-routine processes and process improvements.

Preferred Additional Skills

• Experience with data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python, Excel) for processing and presenting material property test data.
• Familiarity with ASTM mechanical testing standards.
• Strong written communication and technical-reporting skills.
• Ability to collaborate across manufacturing, quality, and design teams.

Schedule & Compensation

• Typical schedule: 9/80 (work 9 of every 14 days, every other Friday off).
• In compliance with pay-transparency requirements, the posted salary range for this role in California (and other listed areas) is $68,000 - $126,000 per year. Final offer may vary based on experience and location.
