What You’ll Do

This Associate Food Scientist role supports product development and commercialization for bakery and related categories. Working with cross-functional partners (Quality, Operations, Marketing, Procurement, Regulatory, Finance), you’ll help move formulas from bench to plant, support plant trials, run sensory testing, and maintain documentation that meets safety and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist with formulation development for bench and plant trials to meet targeted product attributes
  • Design and execute experiments, collect data, analyze results, and recommend formulation or process changes
  • Conduct sensory evaluations and consumer testing to refine product concepts
  • Run and document shelf-life studies and product stability testing
  • Support scale-up by translating lab formulas to plant specifications and troubleshooting process-related issues
  • Partner with suppliers to evaluate ingredient functionality and source-fit for R&D objectives
  • Maintain accurate trial reports, product/process specifications, and project status updates for stakeholders
  • Follow company safety, quality, and regulatory policies in all work
  • Travel approximately 30%+ for plant trials, marketing support, and meetings

Preferred & Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Baking Science, Culinology, or related field required
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience; internships or entry-level roles in product development or commercialization are appropriate
  • Experience or exposure to bread and bakery products (cookies, cakes, fried desserts) preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to design experiments, interpret data, and make actionable recommendations
  • Comfortable performing sensory evaluations and documenting results
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software and lab tools quickly
  • High attention to detail, strong written communication, and the ability to work both independently and in teams

  • Salary range: $55,000 – $60,000 per year (listed by the confidential client)

Location & Travel

  • Location: Thomasville, GA (onsite/plant collaboration required)
  • Travel: Approximately 30%+ for plant trials, supplier/marketing support, and meetings
