Role overview
Confidential client is seeking an Associate Fire Protection Engineer to join their team in Simpsonville, MD. This is an entry-level / early career engineering role focused on life-safety code consulting, sprinkler and fire alarm design, and basic performance-based fire engineering under the direction of licensed engineers and senior consultants. Winter 2025 and Spring 2026 graduates are welcome to apply.
What You’ll Do
- Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services such as life-safety code consulting, sprinkler design, fire alarm design, and performance-based fire engineering under the direction of a P.E. or experienced consultant.
- Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with professional standards.
- Conduct field investigations or inspections and assist in resolving design problems.
- Identify and reference applicable codes and standards to respond to client inquiries.
- Conduct and document building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection/alarm system reviews, smoke control reviews, and basic sprinkler/water supply reviews, including hydraulic calculations.
- Apply engineering calculations related to means of egress, allowable building area, sprinkler water supply, and smoke-control equipment.
- Prepare progress reports for Project Managers and Project Leaders.
- Assist with CADD/document production as required.
- Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, professional journals, and governmental regulations relevant to assigned work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or higher in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Civil, Architectural Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — able to prepare reports, presentations and respond professionally to clients and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated interest in fire protection engineering, life-safety, and advancing the science of safety.
- Ability to work effectively in teams and take direction from licensed engineers and senior consultants.
- Willingness to pursue professional licensure (EIT/FE and eventual P.E.) — confidential client supports licensure and offers guidance.
Compensation & Benefits
- National pay range (provided by the source): $65,000–$90,000 USD per year.
- Estimated market figure shown on source platform: $133,231 per year (estimate).
