Job Overview
Confidential Client is hiring entry-level Associate Fire Protection Engineers for its Columbia, MD office (and other Mid-Atlantic locations). This role is ideal for recent graduates (Winter 2026 / Spring 2027) or engineers with early-career experience who want hands-on exposure to life-safety, sprinkler and fire alarm design, code consulting, and performance-based engineering under mentor guidance.

What You’ll Do
- Perform professional-level fire protection engineering tasks under the supervision of a P.E. or experienced consultant.
- Support life-safety code consulting, sprinkler system design, fire alarm design, and basic performance-based fire engineering.
- Prepare plans, specifications, inspection reports, and progress updates that meet professional practice standards.
- Conduct building code analyses, egress studies, fire detection and alarm reviews, smoke control reviews, and hydraulic calculations.
- Assist with field investigations and inspections to resolve design or compliance questions.
- Apply engineering calculations for means of egress, allowable building area, sprinkler water supply, and smoke control systems.
- Contribute to CADD/document production as needed and coordinate design elements within project teams.
- Communicate findings and technical recommendations clearly in reports and presentations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Civil, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
- Strong written and oral communication skills for reports, presentations, and client interactions.
- Demonstrated interest in advancing fire and life-safety engineering and exceeding client expectations.
- Willingness to learn codes/standards and pursue professional licensure with employer support.
- Positive attitude, attention to detail, and ability to work in multidisciplinary project teams.
