About the Role

Confidential Client is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer (Power System Studies) with 1–4 years of relevant experience to support transmission system design and power system studies. You will contribute to transmission interconnection studies, reactive power compensation analysis, short-circuit and breaker rating studies, and system modeling using industry tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–4 years performing transmission and system analysis studies.
  • Practical understanding of transmission system design concepts, calculations, and standards.
  • Experience with studies such as transmission interconnection, reactive power compensation, short-circuit (fault) analysis, and circuit breaker rating analysis.
  • Hands-on use of one or more power system modeling tools (examples): PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, TARA, TSAT, PSAT.
  • Knowledge of additional power system studies (TRV, TOV, insulation coordination).
  • Familiarity with NERC reliability standards (e.g., TPL, MOD, PRC).
  • Familiarity with major ISOs/RTOs and their study processes.
  • Experience with analytics or scripting (Python or similar).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to coordinate with internal teams and clients.
  • Engineering‑in‑Training (EIT) certification is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program (or equivalent recognized credential).
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience in power system studies or transmission engineering.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding checks (where applicable), which may include background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle record check in compliance with applicable laws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and perform power system studies and transmission design analyses under senior guidance.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables and calculations using standard methods; collect and manage data required for studies.
  • Develop modeling files and run simulations in PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, or comparable tools.
  • Interpret study results, prepare technical recommendations for equipment/material selection, and support design decisions.
  • Coordinate with project leadership, cross-discipline teams, and external stakeholders to meet schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and share knowledge of tools and processes.
  • Mentor entry-level staff and interns as skills develop.

Work Environment & Flexibility

  • Full-time position. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after initial onboarding (typically after 90 days), subject to manager discretion and job requirements.
  • Typical office and project-based work with periodic field or client-site activities as required.

Compensation Transparency

In accordance with local requirements, the annual compensation ranges for this role (by applicable office/jurisdiction) are listed below. Final compensation is based on experience, skills, internal alignment, and location.

  • State of Colorado: $91,047 — $152,053
  • State of Minnesota: $86,909 — $145,142
