Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer (Substation) to join their engineering team supporting high-voltage substation design and EPC projects. This role contributes to protection & control deliverables, physical yard and control system design, equipment specifications, QA/QC, and coordination with clients, vendors, and construction teams.
The Team
Confidential Client’s Technology, Industrial & Governments team works on advanced manufacturing, data center integration, BESS and renewable integration, and high-voltage substation projects. The team delivers engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solutions and values collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do
You may be responsible for:
- Support substation projects up to 765 kV, including detailed engineering for EPC and owner-driven designs
- Develop protection & control deliverables: protective relays, panel arrangements, one-line/three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay wiring and equipment wiring
- Produce physical design deliverables: yard layout plans, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems
- Prepare equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction
- Coordinate and correspond with clients, vendors, and subcontractors
- Travel to client/vendor offices or project sites for design reviews, construction coordination and field verification (as needed)
- Adhere to design budgets and schedules and perform QA/QC on deliverables
- Support business development or pursuit activities when appropriate
Key Responsibilities
- Perform substation design tasks (physical design, protection & control) and drive continuous improvement
- Keep current with design guides, standards, systems, applicable codes, and internal policies and procedures
- Prepare increasingly complex engineering deliverables and calculations using standard methods
- Collect, manage, and apply project data for engineering tasks
- Provide guidance to entry-level staff and interns; coordinate with project leadership and multi-discipline teams
- Support client relationships through regular communication and understanding client drivers
- Share knowledge of current technologies and mentoring best practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in high-voltage (HV) substation design — physical and/or protection & control
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification
- Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited program (or equivalent recognized program)
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements if selected (may include background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search), in compliance with applicable laws
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be available after 90 days, depending on manager discretion, performance, and job needs
- This role may require occasional travel for site visits and coordination
Compensation Transparency
