Key Responsibilities

Confidential Client is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer — Power System Studies (Distribution) to support distribution planning and interconnection studies. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on distribution system analyses and modeling. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Perform distribution power system studies including short-circuit (fault) analysis, load flow / power flow, voltage analysis, and DER impact studies.
  • Perform protection coordination and relay setting evaluations to support design and interconnection.
  • Build and maintain system models using tools such as CYME, Synergi Electric, and similar software.
  • Collect, validate, and manage electrical and field data required for system studies.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables: technical reports, calculations, equipment recommendations, and study documentation that meet quality standards.
  • Coordinate with multi-discipline project teams and communicate results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support less complex project scoping and may assist with business development pursuits as needed.
  • Mentor and provide task direction to entry-level engineers and interns.
  • Follow Confidential Client quality, safety and compliance processes; support continuous improvement efforts.

What You’ll Bring (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related electrical engineering experience (distribution planning, studies or equivalent).
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements where applicable (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle record check) consistent with applicable law.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to produce clear technical reports and coordinate with team members and clients.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and work cooperatively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–4 years performing distribution system planning/studies.
  • Hands-on experience with studies such as Short Circuit (Fault) Analysis, Load Flow/Power Flow, DER Impact Analysis, Protection Coordination Studies, Distribution Interconnection and System Impact Studies.
  • Experience with modeling tools such as CYME, Synergi Electric, or similar distribution system software.
  • Familiarity with scripting or analytics (Python or similar) to support model automation and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under budget and schedule constraints and to present findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
