Position Overview
Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer focused on Power System Studies. This early-career engineering role (1–4 years’ experience) supports transmission system analysis and interconnection studies, fault and breaker-rating evaluations, reactive power studies, and system modeling using industry tools. The role offers professional growth, exposure to regional ISOs, and hybrid/flexible work options after an initial period.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and perform transmission and power system studies, including interconnection studies, reactive power compensation, short-circuit (fault) analysis, and circuit breaker rating analysis
- Build and maintain system models using tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, TARA, TSAT, PSAT
- Prepare engineering calculations, reports, and other deliverables following standards and internal quality processes
- Collect, assimilate, and manage technical data required for system design and studies
- Coordinate with project teams, other disciplines, and clients to understand technical drivers and deliver solutions on schedule and budget
- Contribute to continuous improvement, documentation, and knowledge sharing within the team
- Mentor entry-level engineers and interns as skills develop
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent from an accredited program)
- Minimum 1 year of related work experience in transmission/system analysis or related area
- Hands-on experience (≥1 year preferred) with at least one system modeling tool: PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, TARA, TSAT, PSAT, or similar
- Familiarity with power system studies that support transmission design (TRV, TOV, insulation coordination, etc.)
- Working knowledge of relevant NERC standards (e.g., TPL, MOD, PRC) and regional ISOs (PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO-NE, NYISO)
- Basic scripting or analytics experience (Python or similar) is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification or active pursuit preferred
- Must be able to complete pre-employment screening (background check, drug screen, MVR) where required by law
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–4 years performing transmission and system analysis studies
- Demonstrated ability to develop technical deliverables independently and support project pursuits
- Experience working in a team-oriented, client-facing engineering environment
- Interest in continuous learning and mentorship of junior staff
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and office location in accordance with local pay transparency laws. Where required by law, this role’s annual compensation ranges for the applicable office locations are provided below:
- State of Colorado: $91,047 – $152,053 per year
- State of Minnesota: $86,909 – $145,142 per year
