Role Overview
Confidential Client (Engineering) is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer – Power System Studies to join their Power System Studies team. This is an entry–to–mid level engineering role (1–4 years experience) focused on transmission system analysis, interconnection studies, and modeling using industry tools. Multiple U.S. office locations are supported; this posting lists Cary, NC among the primary locations. Hybrid or flexible work options may be available after initial onboarding.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform transmission and power system studies including transmission interconnection studies, reactive power compensation analysis, short-circuit (fault) analysis, and circuit breaker rating evaluation.
- Build, validate, and maintain system models using tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, TARA, TSAT, PSAT, etc.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical recommendations, and deliverables that follow departmental standards and client requirements.
- Collect, organize, and manage project data; perform research and provide equipment/material selection recommendations.
- Support project teams by coordinating with other disciplines and communicating technical results to internal stakeholders and clients.
- Contribute to quality assurance, continuous improvement, and adherence to budget and schedule targets.
- Mentor entry-level engineers and interns on assigned tasks when appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–4 years performing transmission and system analysis studies.
- Hands-on experience with one or more system modeling tools: PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, TARA, TSAT, PSAT, or similar.
- Familiarity with NERC standards (e.g., TPL, MOD, PRC) and ISO/RTO operations (PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO‑NE, NYISO).
- Experience with analytics or scripting (Python or similar) to automate analyses and improve workflows.
- Knowledge of TRV/TOV, insulation coordination, and other studies used to support transmission design.
- Strong written communication and ability to coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent accredited engineering degree).
- Minimum of 1 year of related power system or transmission analysis experience.
- Ability to complete pre-employment checks as permitted by law (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle record check, etc.).
- Authorization to work in the U.S. as required by the role (this posting indicates visa sponsorship is not available).
Compensation & Locations
- Estimated national figure on the source page: $102,161 per year (estimated).
- State-specific annual ranges provided on the source posting (where required by local pay transparency rules):
- Colorado: $91,047 – $152,053
- Minnesota: $86,909 – $145,142
- Employment type: Full-time. Relocation eligibility: Yes (per client policy).
- Final pay is determined by skills, experience, qualifications, and job location in accordance with applicable laws.
