The Opportunity

Confidential Client is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer (Power System Studies — Transmission) to join their Power System Studies team in Bloomington, MN. This early-career role is a hands-on engineering position focused on transmission system analysis, interconnection studies, reactive power and short-circuit analysis, circuit breaker ratings, and related modeling. The role supports project work across ISOs and utilities, and offers relocation support where applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–4 years performing transmission and system analysis studies
  • Practical understanding of transmission system design principles and calculations
  • Experience with transmission interconnection studies, reactive power compensation, short-circuit (fault) analysis, and circuit breaker rating analysis
  • Experience using one or more power system modeling tools (PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, TARA, TSAT, PSAT, etc.)
  • Knowledge of transmission-support studies (TRV, TOV, insulation coordination, etc.)
  • Familiarity with NERC standards (TPL, MOD, PRC)
  • Familiarity with major ISOs (PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO‑NE, NYISO)
  • Basic analytics or scripting skills (Python or similar)
  • Strong written communication and coordination skills with internal teams and external clients
  • Team-oriented mindset and ability to mentor entry-level staff
  • Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience in power systems or transmission studies
  • Ability to complete pre-employment requirements where applicable (background check, drug screen, MVR), in compliance with law

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn and apply departmental design guides, standards, codes, and policies to assigned tasks
  • Prepare engineering deliverables and perform calculations, research, and equipment/material recommendations
  • Collect, manage, and validate data used for system models and studies
  • Perform power system studies to support transmission design and interconnection efforts
  • Coordinate with project leadership, other engineering disciplines, and external stakeholders
  • Support business development or pursuit activities as required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and share knowledge of current technologies
  • Mentor and help develop entry-level engineers and interns as skills develop

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Primarily office and remote/hybrid work with occasional field or client-site activities as needed
  • Flexible work options may be available after initial 90-day period, based on manager discretion and job duties

Compensation Transparency

In accordance with local requirements, the annual compensation ranges for this role are listed below by state/jurisdiction and reflect applicable office locations. Final compensation will depend on experience, qualifications, and other lawful factors.

  • State of Colorado: 91,047–152,053 (USD per year)
  • State of Minnesota: 86,909–145,142 (USD per year)
