Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer – Power System Studies to join their Power System Studies team. This full-time, entry-to-mid-level engineering role supports transmission system analysis and modeling across multiple U.S. offices (examples: Phoenix, AZ; Houston, TX; Greenwood Village, CO; Bloomington, MN; and others). Hybrid or flexible work options may be considered after 90 days based on business needs.
What You’ll Do
- Support transmission and power system studies including interconnection studies, short-circuit (fault) analysis, reactive power compensation, and circuit breaker rating analysis.
- Build and validate system models using industry tools (PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, TARA, TSAT, PSAT).
- Prepare engineering calculations, equipment recommendations, and deliverable documentation following established standards.
- Collect, organize, and manage study data; run simulations and interpret results to support design decisions.
- Coordinate with project team members, other disciplines, and clients to clarify scope and deliverables.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, share technical knowledge, and mentor entry-level staff and interns.
What We’re Looking For (Core Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent accredited program).
- 1+ years of relevant experience in transmission or power system analysis.
- Familiarity with transmission design concepts and studies: interconnection studies, reactive power compensation, TRV/TOV, insulation coordination, and protection considerations.
- Hands-on experience (≥1 year preferred) with one or more system modeling tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, TARA, TSAT, or PSAT.
- Working knowledge of NERC standards (e.g., TPL, MOD, PRC) and major U.S. ISOs (PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO‑NE, NYISO).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate with technical teams and clients.
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
- Familiarity with analytics and scripting (Python or similar) is a plus.
Preferred / Differentiators
- 1–4 years performing transmission and system analysis studies.
- Experience preparing formal deliverables for clients and ISO/RTO stakeholders.
- Prior exposure to project budgeting, scheduling, and quality processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on defined tasks and to guide less-experienced engineers.
Compensation & Benefits
To comply with pay transparency requirements, the employer provides the following annual compensation ranges where applicable (final pay depends on location, experience, and qualifications):
- Colorado: $91,047 – $152,053 per year
- Minnesota: $86,909 – $145,142 per year
(Note: additional local/office locations may have different compensation ranges.)
