What You’ll Do
This role supports transmission-focused power system studies for high-voltage networks, interconnections and utility clients. You will contribute to studies, modeling, and deliverables used for design, permitting, and regulatory filings.
- Perform transmission and power system studies including interconnection studies, reactive power compensation analysis, short-circuit (fault) studies, and circuit-breaker rating assessments.
- Build and validate system models using industry tools and maintain accurate study datasets.
- Prepare engineering calculations, develop equipment recommendations, and document results in technical reports.
- Coordinate with project teams, other engineering disciplines, clients, and independent system operators (ISOs) to ensure study assumptions and deliverables meet project requirements.
- Support project execution by tracking scope, schedule, and quality for assigned technical tasks.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of study processes, templates, and knowledge sharing; mentor entry-level engineers and interns.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–4 years’ experience performing transmission and system analysis studies.
- Practical experience with studies such as Transmission Interconnection Studies, Reactive Power Compensation, Short Circuit (Fault) Analysis, and Circuit Breaker Rating Analysis.
- Hands-on experience with one or more system modeling tools: PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, TARA, TSAT, PSAT (or similar).
- Familiarity with additional power system studies (TRV, TOV, insulation coordination).
- Working knowledge of NERC standards (e.g., TPL, MOD, PRC) and regional ISO/RTO processes (PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO‑NE, NYISO).
- Basic scripting or analytics experience (Python or similar) is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to coordinate with clients and team members.
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or related engineering discipline) from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 1 year of related professional experience.
- Ability to satisfy pre-employment checks (background, drug screen, MVR) where applicable and in compliance with local law.
Compensation Transparency
To comply with local pay-transparency requirements, the client provides the following annual salary ranges for roles tied to the listed office locations. Final compensation will be set based on skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and location.
- State of Colorado: 91,047–152,053 USD
- State of Minnesota: 86,909–145,142 USD
Note: Other listed locations may follow internal pay bands and will be communicated during the hiring process.
Work Environment & Location
- This position is full-time. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion, job performance, and business needs.
- Typical work includes office- and project-based tasks; occasional travel to client sites or substations may be required.
