Role Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer (Substation) to support high-voltage substation engineering and detailed design for projects up to 765 kV. This role contributes to protection & control and physical substation design deliverables, supports procurement documentation, participates in QA/QC, and may support business development and site coordination. Hybrid work options may be available after an initial period.
What You’ll Do
- Support substation engineering and detailed design for high-voltage projects (up to 765 kV) and EPC work.
- Develop protection & control deliverables: protective relay settings and documentation, panel arrangements, one-line and three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and relay/panel wiring.
- Produce physical design deliverables: yard/layout plans, grounding and lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems.
- Prepare equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction.
- Coordinate with clients, vendors and subcontractors; participate in design reviews and construction coordination.
- Perform QA/QC on engineering deliverables and adhere to project budgets and schedules.
- Provide support for field verification, vendor meetings, and occasional travel to project sites as needed.
- Contribute to business development or pursuit activities when requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (accredited program).
- Minimum of 1 year of related electrical engineering experience (substation or power systems experience preferred).
- Eligible to complete standard pre-employment onboarding (background check, drug screen, driving record check) where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-voltage (HV) substation design — physical design and/or protection & controls.
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with relay settings, one-line/three-line diagrams, and substation grounding and layout practices.
Location & Travel
- Multiple U.S. office locations are supported for this role; candidate location and travel expectations will be discussed during the hiring process.
- Occasional travel to client offices or project sites for design reviews, construction coordination, and field verification may be required.
Work Environment & Compensation
- Full-time position. Hybrid/flexible work options may be available after the first 90 days based on manager discretion and performance.
- Estimated salary (from source posting): $89,550 per year — actual compensation will depend on experience, location, and internal pay practices.
