Position overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Associate Data Scientist for their early-career Associate Program. This entry-level, full-time role is based in SoMa, CA and focuses on data science, machine learning, and generative AI (GenAI) workflows to deliver measurable business outcomes. Estimated salary: $144,423 per year (per job source).

This position is a strong fit for recent graduates or early-career data practitioners who have solid quantitative fundamentals and hands-on experience or coursework with Python/SQL/R, machine learning, and modern GenAI techniques. You will join a collaborative, cross-functional team and contribute to client-facing analytics, modeling, and agentic AI workflows.

Your role and responsibilities

As an Associate Data Scientist you will apply statistics, ML, and data science methods to help solve business problems and to build responsible GenAI/agentic AI workflows. Key responsibilities include:

  • Prepare, clean, join, and analyze structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data for analytics, ML, GenAI, and agentic AI workflows.
  • Implement and validate predictive, prescriptive, and statistical models focused on measurable client outcomes.
  • Design experiments, feature sets, prompts, evaluation datasets, metrics, and tests to assess model outputs, bias, reliability, and business value.
  • Build and evaluate GenAI, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic AI workflows — assessing retrieval quality, grounding, generated responses, and end-to-end agent performance.
  • Work in Agile teams with data scientists, data engineers, AI engineers, consultants, architects, and DBAs to deliver analytical solutions.
  • Translate technical results into clear recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Communicate progress and findings to internal and external clients; document assumptions, limitations, and operational considerations.

Required technical and professional expertise

  • Strong fundamentals in mathematics, statistics, algorithms, and analytical reasoning.
  • Familiarity with programming in Python, SQL, R, or similar languages.
  • Foundational knowledge of predictive and prescriptive modeling, statistical methods, and machine learning.
  • Basic familiarity with cloud environments or AI/data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar).
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 100%, based on project requirements.

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or another quantitative field.
  • Coursework, projects, internships, or portfolio work involving data science, machine learning, GenAI, or agentic AI.
  • Hands-on familiarity with LLMs, embeddings, vector databases, retrieval systems, prompt engineering, and RAG patterns.
  • Exposure to orchestration/agentic AI frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, or similar).
  • Understanding of Git, containers, APIs, testing frameworks, CI/CD, MLOps/LLMOps, observability, model monitoring, and responsible AI practices, including data governance, privacy, and security.
