Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an Associate Data Engineer (anticipated start 2027) to join its IT consulting practice in Durham, NC. This entry-level role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career talent who want hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines, cloud data solutions, and analytics-ready datasets. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver data plumbing, ingestion, validation, and visualization that power client decision-making.
What You’ll Do
- Assist in designing and implementing scalable data architecture and management systems for modern cloud environments.
- Build, maintain, and optimize ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python, SQL, and industry tools.
- Support batch and real-time data processing workloads.
- Clean, validate, and preprocess data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Create dashboards and visualizations to communicate insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot data issues, help integrate disparate data sources, and work to resolve inconsistencies.
- Translate client requirements into solution requirements in collaboration with project teams and architects.
- Present findings and recommendations clearly to demonstrate business value.

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications

- Willingness to travel up to 100% based on project requirements.
Technical Skills & Tools
- Programming: Python (preferred), Java, Scala experience is a plus.
- Data: Strong SQL skills; familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts and tools.
- Cloud & Platforms: Basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.).
- Data engineering tools: Spark, Hadoop, Airflow, Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt (exposure preferred).
- Dev practices: Basic experience with CI/CD and data modeling.
- Analytical methods: Familiarity incorporating statistical and machine learning techniques is helpful.
Certifications & Nice-to-Haves
- Preferred certifications or coursework: SnowPro Core, Databricks Data Engineer Associate, Google Associate Cloud Engineer or relevant data engineering coursework.
- GenAI literacy (prompt engineering, RAG, fine-tuning) is a plus.
