Key Responsibilities
The Associate Bakery Scientist will support product formulation, commercialization and continuous improvement for baked-goods brands. This role partners with cross‑functional teams (Quality, Operations, Marketing, Procurement, Regulatory, Finance) and external suppliers to move concepts from bench to plant while maintaining safety, quality and label compliance.
- Assist with formulation development for bench trials and plant trials to meet targeted product attributes
- Design and execute experiments, collect and analyze data, and recommend next steps
- Conduct sensory evaluations and consumer testing to validate product concepts
- Document trial results, update product/process specifications, and communicate status to stakeholders
- Identify product and process improvement opportunities to reduce cost and improve performance
- Maintain ingredient functionality knowledge to support R&D and process improvement projects
- Manage shelf‑life and stability studies
- Ensure compliance with corporate safety and applicable regulatory requirements
- Travel approximately 30%+ (including overnight) for plant trials, marketing support, and meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned consistent with role expectations
Preferred Qualifications
- 0–3 years of relevant experience in product development and commercialization of baked goods; internships or entry-level R&D experience accepted
- Familiarity with bread and other bakery categories (cookies, cakes, fried desserts preferred)
- Sensory evaluation and shelf‑life study experience a plus
- Demonstrated proficiency with computers and common digital tools; quick to learn new software
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Baking Science, Culinology, or related field
- Ability to work independently and in cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong curiosity, attention to detail, and commitment to product safety and quality
- Willingness to travel ~30%+
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $55,000–$60,000 per year
