Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an Assistant Transportation Engineer – Geotechnical to support bridge program delivery in Augusta, ME. This is an entry-level professional engineering role focused on geotechnical investigations, foundation evaluation, and preparation of geotechnical design deliverables.
Employment type: Full time, Permanent.
Salary: US$56,867.20 - US$79,747.20 per year.
Location: Augusta, ME (onsite with periodic field work).


What You’ll Do

  • Oversee and inspect subsurface exploration programs (drilling, test pits, CPT, sampling).
  • Develop and coordinate laboratory testing programs for soils and materials.
  • Evaluate subsurface conditions and interpret geotechnical data.
  • Develop bridge foundation alternatives and identify pertinent geotechnical constraints.
  • Complete geotechnical engineering evaluations and prepare geotechnical design reports and calculation packages.
  • Perform periodic field work to monitor subsurface exploration and support geotechnical construction activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a closely related field — OR — non-engineering college graduates and non-degreed candidates must possess Certification as Engineer‑Intern (EIT) issued by the State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
  • Ability to perform entry-level geotechnical engineering tasks and produce technical documentation.
  • Willingness to perform periodic field work and site inspections.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills appropriate for technical report preparation and coordination with construction personnel.

Licensing / Registration

  • Non-degreed candidates must possess Certification as Engineer‑Intern (EIT) issued by the Maine State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers prior to permanent appointment.
  • Candidates holding engineering degrees should be on a path toward professional licensure (PE) as applicable.

Preferred / Desirable

  • Prior geotechnical experience (field or design) is preferred.
  • Experience with bridge foundations, subsurface exploration methods, and geotechnical laboratory testing is a plus.
  • Familiarity with preparing geotechnical reports and calculation packages for public works or transportation projects.
