Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an Assistant Product Manager I to support product and project execution for engineered packaged systems used in data centers, power, and commercial/industrial utility applications. This is a full-time position based in Houston, TX. The role supports Product Management, Application Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Service teams throughout proposal, award, construction, and closeout phases.


What You’ll Do

  • Support Application Engineering to develop technical solutions and prepare cost estimates during the proposal stage.
  • Help manage preliminary design and supplier solicitation; refine project scope and pre-award budgets.
  • Assist the Product Manager during project kick-off and act as a backup customer interface for technical and commercial tasks.
  • Coordinate internal project documentation distribution and revision control.
  • Work with Procurement and suppliers to support materials purchasing and delivery to meet project schedules.
  • Collaborate with the Master Scheduler to develop start-to-finish project schedules.
  • Prepare scope-related documents (Master Document Lists, Distribution Lists).
  • Conduct periodic budget reviews, forecasting to completion, and solicit accounting data for analysis.
  • Serve as customer single-point contact for engineering, delivery, and construction issues as assigned.
  • Coordinate with Project Engineers, vendors, and EPC contractors on technical and production issues.
  • Protect against scope creep and support project change order initiatives.
  • Implement risk management and capture lessons learned across project lifecycle.
  • Support start-up, commissioning, training coordination with Service teams and expedite project closeout and retainage release.
  • Travel to domestic and international job sites as needed to resolve field issues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year program, OR equivalent military leadership/technical experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in project engineering, application engineering, or project/project management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to serve as customer interface.
  • Experience with project cost estimating, scheduling, construction management, vendor management, and contract administration.
  • Proficient with MS Office and MS Project; experience with ERP systems and document control databases.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards (ANSI, ASME, API, OSHA).
  • Knowledge of refrigeration principles, civil/structural/mechanical design, power wiring, and controls architecture is highly valuable.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with packaged equipment, industrial HVAC, data centers, energy service contracting (ESCO), or power generation projects.
  • P.E. license, financial coursework or degree, or direct experience with insurance and bonding.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and contract management skills.

Travel & Physical Requirements

  • Extensive travel to domestic and international job sites is required.
  • Ability to work in field construction locations, occasionally climb ladders.
  • Primarily a desk-based role (approximately 80–95%); occasional physical activity may include lifting up to 10 pounds, repetitive motions, sitting, stooping, bending, talking, and hearing. Visual acuity for detailed reading and computer work required.
