Role Overview

The Confidential Client is seeking a motivated, collaborative Assistant Planner to join the Community Development Department — Planning Division in Glendora, CA. This entry-level professional position blends front-counter customer service with hands-on current planning and development review work. You will contribute to projects that shape the community and support thoughtful, sustainable development.


What You’ll Do

  • Conduct current and long-range planning assignments; evaluate data and propose methods to resolve zoning, general plan, and environmental issues.
  • Review development plans for architectural, zoning, and general plan compliance; perform field surveys and follow-up inspections.
  • Prepare staff reports, environmental reviews (CEQA-related documentation such as negative declarations), and special planning studies.
  • Advise applicants, architects, engineers, developers, and the public on city development procedures and zoning requirements.
  • Assist Planning Commission, City Council, and other committees by preparing materials, graphic presentations, and making presentations as needed.
  • Coordinate with consultants, internal departments, and state/county/federal agencies; schedule and manage project review committee meetings.
  • Review business license applications for zoning compliance; participate in contract negotiations and monitor contract provisions.
  • May provide lead supervision to interns or support staff on assigned projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in planning, architecture, environmental design, landscape architecture, or a related field, plus two years of related work experience — OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with planning principles, CEQA, Subdivision Map Act, site planning, and architectural review.
  • Ability to read plans and maps (including grading plans) and apply relevant laws, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interacting with the public and presenting to commissions.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class C California driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
