Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an Assistant Cables Engineer to support designs for underground, trenchless and submarine power cable projects. This early-career/full-time role works on distribution and transmission systems (low/medium voltage up to 500 kV) and supports project teams from concept through construction. The position is based in Wallingford, CT and includes occasional travel (~10%).

What You’ll Do

• Assist senior engineers and project managers with the design of underground and submarine power cable systems (13–500 kV).
• Prepare and modify production drawings, plan/profile drawings, structure load diagrams and foundation drawings using CAD tools.
• Apply basic electrical, civil and mechanical engineering principles to support cable and powerline design tasks.
• Support review and QA of drawings provided by senior staff; ensure corrections are applied across CAD platforms.
• Assist with research, data collection, studies and technical reports for internal and client use.
• Participate in client presentations, shop drawing reviews and contract administration as needed.
• Perform field inspections, measurements and calculations to support design and construction activities.
• Support construction-phase coordination and provide design clarifications during build-out.
• Perform other duties as assigned while complying with all company policies and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred), or related Engineering Technology degree plus successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
• Prior internship or consulting experience preferred; new graduates encouraged to apply.
• Basic knowledge of electrical power flow and distribution/transmission fundamentals preferred.
• Familiarity with CAD and basic distribution design software preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
• Strong attention to detail; ability to work methodically and collaboratively within project teams.
• Leadership potential and demonstrated teamwork on academic or extracurricular projects preferred.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred.
• Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $80,000 - $115,000 per year (range provided in compliance with applicable regulations; final offer will depend on experience, education and location).
• Eligible to participate in discretionary year-end incentive programs.
