What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking an Architectural Historian Technician to provide as-needed, project-based field and office support for cultural‑resources work across the Gulf region. This role focuses on field documentation, photography, data collection, and supporting Section 106 / NEPA deliverables.
- Perform field documentation and photographic recording of historic and cultural resources
- Collect field data using mobile tablets and standardized inventory forms
- Conduct archival and repository research (online and in libraries/repositories) as needed
- Contribute to technical reports, inventory forms, and project deliverables
- Support agency consultation (federal, state, and local) and permitting processes
- Assist with special projects including National Register nominations, preservation plans, and historic structure reports
- Work independently in field settings and collaborate with interdisciplinary cultural‑resource teams
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (historic preservation, anthropology, architectural history, archaeology, or related field)
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in the field and follow safety guidance
- Willingness to travel to project sites across Texas and surrounding states
Preferred:
- Graduate coursework in historic preservation or closely related discipline and/or prior field documentation experience
- Experience with Section 106 and NEPA cultural‑resources processes
- Familiarity with inventory/recordation forms and basic report writing
- Comfortable using mobile data collection tools and digital photography equipment
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
This role is field‑heavy and may involve:
- Extended periods outdoors in variable weather (including heat)
- Remote locations and rough terrain
- Bending, stooping, lifting/ carrying field equipment, standing and walking for extended periods
