Position summary

Confidential Client is seeking entry-level Archaeologists for project-based, on-call, part-time-as-needed (PTAN) field work supporting environmental planning and cultural-resources projects in Sharonville, OH and surrounding areas. This role focuses on archaeological field investigations (shovel testing, pedestrian survey, excavation, monitoring) and requires significant travel to project sites.

What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring field-focused Archaeologists to support cultural resources projects. Key responsibilities include:

• Conduct archaeological fieldwork at all investigation levels: site identification, shovel testing, pedestrian survey, excavation, documentation, and data recovery.
• Perform archaeological monitoring during construction or ground‑disturbing activities.
• Collect and record field data using GPS and standard field forms.
• Document finds and field conditions clearly and promptly; take field notes, photos, and produce site records.
• Follow project-specific health & safety and field procedures.
• Collaborate with cultural resources and interdisciplinary environmental teams to meet project schedules and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field.
• 1–2 years of cultural resources management (CRM) field experience.
• Demonstrated practical field experience working in Ohio or nearby states.
• Working knowledge of GPS devices and field data collection methods.
• Ability to walk and work in the field for long hours and carry up to ~40 pounds.
• Reliable transportation to reach dispersed project sites; willingness to travel overnight as required.

Preferred (not required):

• Familiarity with CRM regulatory processes and field documentation standards.
• Experience with shovel tests, pedestrian surveys, and controlled excavation.
• Strong attention to detail and clear written/verbal communication skills.

Work environment & travel

• This is a field-based position: expect ~90–100% time in the field on project sites (remote project locations).
• Work takes place in a variety of outdoor conditions (uneven terrain, hot/cold weather, remote locations).
• Travel to multiple project sites — sometimes overnight — is required. Projects may be scheduled on an as-needed, on-call basis.

Compensation & benefits

• Hourly rate: $22.69 – $34.04 per hour (actual pay will depend on experience, education, project, and location).
