Overview

This is an entry-level Aquarist I (Operational Focus) position based in Los Angeles, CA. You will work hands-on maintaining clean, healthy aquariums and caring for marine livestock for a confidential client in the marine husbandry industry. The role emphasizes daily husbandry tasks including feeding, water quality testing, tank cleaning, receiving shipments, and basic livestock health support.


Primary Responsibilities & Duties

  • Check invoices and confirm counts for incoming shipments
  • Prepare arrival and holding spaces for incoming livestock
  • Handle and move livestock safely and humanely
  • Remove deceased animals from holding systems
  • Prepare and distribute feeds to marine fishes and invertebrates
  • Clean tanks, systems, and work areas
  • Perform water quality testing and enter results into tracking systems

Secondary Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist acclimation, freshwater husbandry, invertebrate husbandry, packing/picking, and facility maintenance teams
  • Support packing and shipping when required
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors

Qualifications

  • Entry level — no prior professional aquarist experience required
  • Weekend and holiday work required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (for data entry and reporting)
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience keeping aquariums is a plus — tell us about your aquarium experience!

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Frequent standing — often more than 7 hours per day
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs
  • Work involves wet environments and manual handling of tanks and equipment

Compensation

  • Estimated pay (from source posting): $57,031 per year (estimated)
