What You’ll Do

This entry-level Apprentice Technician role supports service technicians in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining customer vehicles. You will learn manufacturer and dealership processes while developing the technical skills needed to progress to a Service Technician role.

  • Assist Master/Service Technicians and Team Leads with vehicle inspections and diagnostics
  • Help identify required repairs and maintenance items
  • Support estimating and documenting repair work and parts needed
  • Assist with performing routine repairs, maintenance, and service tasks under supervision
  • Request and track parts for repair jobs
  • Accurately record hours in the company timekeeping system
  • Use available technologies to improve the customer experience
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area
  • Participate in required training (manufacturer, NAPA or equivalent) and certifications
  • Follow dealership, manufacturer, and safety guidelines
  • Support CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) and company service standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors

Qualifications

Candidates who succeed in this role typically demonstrate mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and reliable work habits.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred; technical certificate or associate degree a plus
  • Basic knowledge of automotive parts and systems or demonstrable mechanical skills
  • Technical training or commensurate hands-on experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Eligible for manufacturer training, NAPA training, and state inspection/emissions training if applicable
  • Basic computer skills for timekeeping and parts/inventory systems
  • Strong ability to follow instructions and communicate with customers and team members
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks associated with vehicle service
  • Reliable attendance and flexibility to work evenings, weekends or holidays as scheduled

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Work is performed primarily in a vehicle service area and shop environment
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and use of hands and arms
  • May be exposed to noise, vibration, exhaust fumes, and typical shop hazards
  • Safe operation of hand and power tools required
  • Frequent interaction with service advisors, managers, and customers
