Role overview

This early-career Applied Mechanics Sr. Engineer role supports product design and validation through numerical modeling, simulation, and data-driven problem solving. You will build, run, and interpret computational models (FEA, dynamics, durability) to evaluate structural performance and provide design recommendations. This role balances execution of established processes with opportunities to improve methods and develop automation workflows.


What You’ll Do

  • Conduct numerical simulations to evaluate motion, loads, natural frequencies, stresses, fatigue life, and sound power for components and systems.
  • Develop, validate, and deliver computational models and results to Design and Product Validation teams.
  • Execute and improve established engineering processes and Design Validation Plans (DVP&R) and Engineering Standard Work (ESW).
  • Investigate product and system problems, determine root causes, recommend corrective actions, and document results.
  • Apply statistical methods, DOE, and regression analysis to support data-driven design decisions.
  • Collaborate with Design, Thermal Sciences, Materials, and Product Validation to integrate multi-disciplinary inputs.
  • Develop or adapt specialized computational tools and automation to increase analysis throughput and confidence.
  • Coordinate and guide technicians or temporary student employees as needed.
  • Produce clear technical documentation, reports, and multi-mode communications for diverse audiences.

What We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant STEM field is required.
  • Entry-level / early career (designed for candidates within ~2 years of completing their highest degree).
  • Hands-on experience or coursework in statics, dynamics, machine design, mechanics of materials, fatigue, and failure analysis.
  • Familiarity with MS Office and one or more of: Matlab, Python, APDL/ANSYS, FORTRAN, or C.
  • Comfortable with Windows/Linux environments and high-performance / remote compute workflows.
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective written/verbal communication.
  • Ability to work on-site in Columbus, OH with telecommute flexibility as defined by the client.

Preferred / Advantageous Skills

  • Experience with ANSYS, FE‑Safe, GT, AVL, or similar FEA and durability tools.
  • Automation and scripting experience (Python, Codex, or other AI-assisted workflows) to enhance simulation and optimization processes.
  • Hands-on experience with Creo and experimental data post-processing (Testlab, nCode).
  • Experience with FEA automation, design optimization, and HPC environments.
  • Graduate degree (MS) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline is preferred for select roles.

  • Start date: June 2027 (per client timeline).
  • Subfunction: Structural, Dynamics & Acoustics Systems – Analytical (SDAS).
  • Degree level: MS preferred; Bachelor’s required. Educational program preference: ME (open to AE, IE, and related disciplines).
