What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring an Application Software Engineer II to join the Chassis Tester Software team developing verification systems for flight-critical avionics. You will design, implement, and maintain Linux-based instrument drivers, hardware-in-the-loop test frameworks, operator tools, and automated result-checking infrastructure used to validate avionics before flight.
- Design and implement production-quality Linux software drivers for instruments (power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, DAQ) over SCPI, VISA, serial, USB, and Ethernet
- Own driver lifecycle: characterization, implementation, integration testing, and documentation
- Collaborate with avionics hardware engineers to define operating envelopes and validate driver correctness against hardware specs
- Architect and extend automated test execution frameworks and result-checking systems
- Implement pass/fail logic, limit management, and structured reporting for acceptance and qualification campaigns
- Build operator-facing applications (GUI and/or CLI) for configuring, executing, monitoring, and reviewing test campaigns
- Design networking architecture for multi-instrument, multi-UUT test setups and maintain deployment automation (Ansible-based)
- Reduce technical debt by standardizing interfaces and maintaining a clean common codebase
- Prioritize usability and reliability for non-software users in fast-paced test environments
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- 2+ years professional software engineering experience
- Strong Python skills — writing testable, maintainable code and tests
- Proven experience developing software on Linux (process management, systemd, shell scripting)
- Networking experience: sockets, UDP/TCP telemetry, packet capture/parsing, network reliability handling
- Hands-on experience writing hardware interface software (instrument drivers, SCPI/VISA, or equivalent)
- Experience with automated test frameworks (pytest or equivalent), fixture design, parametrization, and structured reporting
- Strong Git workflow discipline, code review and CI integration experience
- Ability to debug across hardware-software boundary (comfortable using scopes, DMMs, etc.)
- Track record of owning a software system end-to-end: architecture, deployment, and long-term maintenance
- Experience making and defending architectural decisions with cross-functional impact
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or other safety‑critical domains where software correctness matters
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Ansible or other infrastructure-as-code/configuration management tools
- Experience building GUI (PyQt5/6, PySide, wxPython) or web operator interfaces (FastAPI, React)
- C++ experience in embedded or hardware-interface contexts
- Familiarity with avionics test environments (EMI, TVAC, pyrotechnic systems, harness verification)
- Experience designing networked test architectures (Ethernet instrument switching, NPC configuration)
- Knowledge of acceptance and qualification test processes in aerospace hardware lifecycles
- Familiarity with DOORS, Jama, or similar requirements management systems
- Experience with Docker or containerized test environments
Compensation & Benefits
- Base pay range for WA applicants: $134,961.00 - $188,945.40
- Benefits typically include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid parental leave, short & long-term disability, 401(k) with company match, stock options (for eligible regular employees), paid time off, and education support — specifics depend on role and level.
Additional Information
- Export control / eligibility: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
- Background checks: Standard background check required for all positions; additional checks may be required depending on job profile.
