About the Opportunity

Our confidential client is a Michigan-based leader in machinery installation, vibration isolation, and equipment anchoring products. Their solutions are used across power generation, machine tools, manufacturing, testing, medical, and other industrial markets. This is a close-knit engineering team with direct access to leadership and strong opportunities for growth. They seek a CAD-focused Application Engineer who enjoys customer interaction and hands-on technical problem solving.

The Role

This is a CAD-heavy, customer-facing engineering role. You will use SolidWorks daily to produce part, assembly, and fabrication drawings (including complex steel fabrications for steam and gas turbine generator projects). You’ll support customers, consulting engineers, field sales, fabrication shops, and internal teams by applying the client’s products to real-world installations. Occasional travel to customer and project sites is required.

Responsibilities

  • Handle incoming technical calls and emails from customers and field sales
  • Provide engineering support and prepare written product proposals
  • Use SolidWorks to create detailed kit and fabrication drawings for power‑generation equipment installations (base frames, soleplates, chock & shim assemblies, anchor bolt layouts, weldments, etc.)
  • Apply GD&T to detail drawings to ensure fit, function, and manufacturability
  • Manage drawing revisions through quoting and ordering cycles
  • Coordinate with fabrication shops to confirm drawings are shop‑ready and resolve fit‑up, tolerancing, or weldment questions
  • Produce drawings and documentation to support quotations, purchasing, and customers
  • Create and maintain product detail drawings, drawing standards, and document-control procedures
  • Maintain product specifications and literature (company and competitive)
  • Help establish quality control standards for products
  • Train sales personnel (in-house and field) on product application and installation
  • Assist with product data sheets, brochures, and sales materials
  • Travel occasionally to customer and project sites as needed
  • Participate in project meetings and evaluate potential new products

What Our Client Is Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical preferred) or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience (strong entry-level candidates may be considered)
  • SolidWorks proficiency — daily creation of part, assembly, and fabrication drawings required
  • Strong understanding and practical use of GD&T
  • Ability to interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and technical documents
  • Experience or familiarity with power generation, machinery installation, vibration isolation, or manufacturing preferred
  • General knowledge of machinery installation and construction practices is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working directly with customers and sales reps
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time-management skills
  • Proactive problem-solver who works well with limited information and anticipates issues
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to customer and project sites

Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday, standard business hours
  • Occasional extended hours to meet project deadlines
  • Office-based with occasional travel to customer and project sites

Compensation & Benefits

  • $65,000–$70,000 base salary (depending on experience)
  • Significant growth opportunity within a specialized, well-established company
  • Direct access to leadership on a close-knit team
  • Opportunity to build a long-term career doing hands-on CAD and field engineering work
